Over the course of the year The Outfitters hosts demo days where members of the community are invited to come out and try equipment before they buy.


Summer Gear Swap

The Outfitters Summer Gear Swap takes place is a community event in association with the East Coast Trail Association. Most items swapped during this event are summer related such as tents, stoves, backpacks spring and summer outerwear and anything outdoor related. 10% of Gear Swap sales will be donated directly to the East Coast Trail Association. 

2018 Gear Swap - Sunday May 27th from 9am to 1pm

NEW LOCATION - 1091 Topsail Road in Mount Pearl

Deadlines for drop off: 
Downtown (220 Water Street): Thursday May 24th at 8pm
Mt. Pearl (1091 Topsail Rd): Saturday, May 26th at 5pm
May 27th: Will still accept items day of Gear Swap, however your best advantage is to have them out and ready when the doors open.

How to Swap

Simply bring you gear to The Outfitters (at 220 Water Street in St. John's or 1091 Topsail Road in Mount Pearl) and complete a gear swap form. One of our friendly staff or volunteers will help you itemize each of your swap items, tag them and price them accordingly.  Gear Swaps take place on the weekend so ensure you get your gear ready and bring it to The Outfitters the week leading up to the Swap.

We will be accepting drop offs, at both of our locations between May 1st to May 25th/26th

You choose your own price, if you would like store credit you'll receive 90% of the selling price once sold. Otherwise you can recieve a cheque worth 70% or donate 100% to the East Coast Trail Association. 

You do not need to be at the Gear Swap to sell your items, nor do you nned to have items in the Gear Swap to purchase!


Gear Swap Registration Guidelines

  • Please ensure your Gear Swap items are in a clean and sellable condition 
  • Please ensure your unsold Gear Swap items are picked up within one (1) week after Gear Swap
  • If you would like to donate your un-sold items, please check the applicable box on the form

Fall/Winter Gear Swap - Saturday Nov 10th - 9am to 1pm

The Outfitters fall Gear Swap takes place on Saturday November 10th and is a community event in association with the Avalon Nordic Ski Club. Most items swapped during this event are winter related such as skis and related ski products, snowshoe, winter outerwear, footwear, and anything else outdoor related (like camping gear, backpacks, etc). Children's outdoor wear is encouraged!

How to Swap

Simply bring your gear to The Outfitters and complete a gear swap form. Download your Gear Swap form here.

One of our friendly staff or volunteers will be able to help suggest pricing if you are not sure. As well as make sure you have filled out your Gear Swap form and tags legibly.

You don't need to have items in the Gear Swap to be able to shop! Come on out and support the community!

We are accepting items until Thursday November 8th at 8pm

- Drop offs accepted at either location (1091 Topsail Road in Mount Pearl or 220 Water Street in St. John's). Both locations are open Thursdays until 9pm


Gear Swap Registration Guidelines

Gear Swap Tips

Please write a brief description (to add value) on the tag provided - this will help potential buyers make a better, and quicker decision

Examples:

  • 'bought for the kids and they decided not to ski anymore'
  • '2 years old - bought for $200 - decided to upgrade'  
  • 'Works great' or 'Lots of life left'

Ski Marathon

  • The Annual Cross Country Ski Marathon is coordinated by Cross Country Newfoundland and Labrador and the host club. Each year the event promises a great experience and a challenge.
  • The ski marathon is a long distance cross-country skiing race, usually divided into categories including 24 and 41 kilometers distances and competitive and recreations divisions. Skiers can use either classic (diagonal stride) or freestyle (skate) techniques depending on the rules of the race.
  • The marathon accommodates for most ages and capabilities.
  • Highlights of a Newfoundland and Labrador Marathon include well groomed and marked trails in a spectacular countryside and a Banquet and presentation of awards.

The Outfitters Open

The Outfitters Open is a ski race organized by the Avalon Nordic Ski Club and sponsored by The Outfitters Adventure Gear and Apparel. The Race will take place at Butterpot Park, the Club’s headquarters, and offer fantastic groomed and backcountry ski trails for every style of Nordic skiing. In previous years, the race has attracted 50+ participants and we strive to attract more each year. This will be a fun family event for participants of all ages to enjoy competitive ski racing in both classic and skate ski styles. This event is open to the public, with an extended invitation to other ski clubs in the region.


Snowshoe

The Outfitters Annual 5Km Snowshoe Challenge

Spice up your training and accept the challenge of one of the hardest winter workouts. The race is held in Pippy Park each winter on St. Paddy’s Day Weekend.

 

What you will need:

  • Snowshoes - either your own or demo pair (limited demos available)
  • Running shoes or light hiking boots
  • Consider using gators if heavy snow
  • Dress for winter aerobic activity
  • Hydration
  • Sunglasses

Slacklining

The Outfitters carries a full line of Slackline products for enthusiasts and recently the community of slackliners is growing in Newfoundland and Labrador with the introduction of their Facbook Page.

We encourage you to join this page will allow you to connect with other slackliners and give you the opportunity to share photos and make friends with other people across the island and country that have a love for the sport.
