Trail Running

Trail Running consists of running and hiking over trails. It differs from road running and track running in that generally takes place on hiking trails, often in mountainous terrain, where there can be much larger ascents and descents.

Join us Tuesday evenings for a fun and free trail run! All ages and abilities welcomed. Sign up for our Fun Trail Run email list to stay up to date on times and locations.

The two main choices of trails systems are:

The East Coast Trail Association

The Grand Concourse Authority

The many benefits of trail running

  • Improve balance and agility
  • Running on uneven terrain burns more calories
  • More scenery on a trail vs. roads
  • Improve coordination
  • Great for cross training
  • More challenging
  • And more fun

The attraction of trail running has been growing as more road runners try out the sport.

Trail running is safer

Simply put traffic and road noise along with congestion and exhaust fumes are not pleasant. Road running has its appeals however in alignment with our philosophy, running through nature trails is extremely more suited to our organization. You won’t see many animals, streams and other natural surroundings along the road.

A better workout

Proven time and time again, better agility, increased calorie burning, and because terrain is constantly changing you have to pay attention. It’s been said that trail running is actually more meditative than the clocking miles on the pavement - if you have to focus on one thing, it drowns out everything else.
